Labor Dispute, Labor Protest, and Labor Law

Despite its authoritarian rule, China has joined other advanced industrial societies to enact and, to some extent, enforce, labor laws that purported to safeguard workers’ interests.  The last two decades have witnessed the rise of legal consciousness and labor protest.

This study looks at the labor dispute in the street and in the court, and the interlocking connections of the two. The chief method is fieldwork research conducting interviews with laborers and government officials.
